The End of an Icon

David Bowie’s ageless persona has fascinated our culture for decades and will continue to fascinate our culture infinitely. David’s characters were always relevant whether they were created psychosomatically or through other inspirations including his own personality, which was also somewhat a mystery, but always appropriately and uniquely defined the man and the icon.

Any teenager of the beginning Bowie era, starting with his first breakout hit “Space Oddity” 1969, grew up with this man and were incidentally or directly influenced by him. As the old saying goes, he provided a large piece of the sound track of their lives. Don’t think so? At the very least look at the fashion trends over the last almost 50 years, even my own eluded fantastic thoughts and activities of the early seventies have been articulated in my mind and cherished memories of the past, thanks to David Bowie.

To paraphrase a quote by Gene Simmons, when interviewed on CNN, basically Gene said; “There’s a lot of great bands, entertainers, and solo artist in the industry that have influenced many other likewise people, but there are only a very few way up at the top that have, using their own ingenuity, revolutionized the industry”.

From Space Oddity, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, etc. to The Thin White Duke and his perfect hair and fashionable attire, David Bowie was a true innovator and influence across all genres of music, fashion and theater not to mention a household name and will be deeply missed.

This video production (by Alan Yentob, filmed in 1974 for the BBC) gives a superb feel and insightful look into the early attributes of a constantly changing frail and articulate genius.

Madonna 80s Fashion After Halloween

Like myself, most people probably won’t be shopping for a Halloween costume again, including (Madonna costumes) until next year, right? Well that depends. 80s fashion has been popular since it’s infancy and quite frankly continues to be.

There are many other fun occasions where a costume of sorts can be used, think about it. Costume parties for one, there are many characters you can sport besides the usual Toga outfit or what ever.

That’s where Madonna and her style of attire come into play. Madge’s 80s style fashion isn’t only about her big hairdos and red lipstick, its also about her bangle bracelets, hair ties, wild belts, cool low boots/booties etc., all accessories that you can easily use to create your own 80s style with, or apply your efforts to going all out and becoming the best damn Madonna you can, or even another fashionable, totally tubular woman of the 80s.

Don’t hang your costume clothing up in the closet for the year to collect dust, bring it back to life, at least intermittent life, with some new accessories or wig and makeup. There’s always room for, and a time for, 80s like fashion. A trend that will never die!

Experiencing things that you never thought were possible is what Mr. Steve Jobs gave the world.

His passing saddens me deeply.

Condolences to his family.

80s Fashion Trends

Living in California for almost ten years (mid 70s to mid 80s) I discovered first hand that most of the fashion trends, in the US anyway, tend to begin in the West because that’s where most of the Stars reside , then move far east, leaving the mid range of the US wondering what they should be wearing at the time, not to mention that the speed of which this happens is amazing! 80s fashion was No different. Besides the fact that one of the icons that made this type fashion a hit and played a huge role in creating it, “Madonna” started her career in NY.

A few times a year, there seems to be a shift in fashions. I take a look around at fashion today and get a little confused. I see all the high school stuff. From clothing, to jewelry, to shoes, to makeup. It all changes rapidly, but yet seems to flow in a circle. You never know what to buy because the trends come & go so quickly. Quite often you can look back at the things you wore when you were young and wonder, what were you thinking?

Madonna Wearing Bracelets in 1983Can you figure these kids out these days? Some of the trends are a little off the wall. It’s amazing how much can change from generation to generation. I can now see why my parents would stop, stare and snicker at times. They probably thought, “What in the world is he doing?” Regardless of the latest fashion, as a parent you might as well get informed or your kids may leave you in the dust. Don’t you want to know what’s going on?

“What was with the jelly bracelets in the 80s fashion trends?” Can you believe that jelly bracelets have come back around already? Are these really part of the current fashion trends again? Yes indeed! They were just here in the 80s, made extremely popular by Madonna. I also wonder, is the big hair coming back next? “Already Started my friends!”

If you are lacking in the fashion department regardless of your current age, it’s certainly not hard to catch up.

Click on your television and take a gander at what fashion trends are big on MTV and all the teen & adult dramas. You’ll get a full dose of the hair, makeup, and apparel. Another great source for the fashion of today is the World-Wide-Web. Virtually any recent trends and styles you can fathom will be found in cyberspace.

You’ll also find interesting features in fashion magazines, such as interviews with celebrities, articles on the latest hair styling products and hair styles as well as which shoes they wear! ;)

Madonna Accessories

Need help choosing the right accessories to go with your totally bitchen 80s Madonna fashion!

Without the perfect Madonna accessories it’s like serving a drink without the proper garnish, you need to find the right accessories to complete your look.

A good idea when looking for the perfect MD accessories, for example, is to go online and learn a bit both about your character including (if an actual person) their life style, reputation, etc.. and possibly the event itself, whether it be Halloween or another type of dress occasion.

Sure, you might get some strange looks because of some of the items you pick out (especially when it comes to Madonna), but you’ll have a killer outfit and just as important, the type of Halloween costume/outfit accessories that capture the spirit of the character in question.

As you probably already know, the Internet has hundreds if not thousands of stores dedicated to helping you with your quest. Whether you want to go to a Halloween specialty store for your Madonna Accessories, a clothiers of your choice, a generic costume shop, maybe even your local store in the mall or shopping center, you have options both in terms of walk-in stores or online.

Madonna the Material Girl Walked the Talk!

During the time period between 1982-1985 the now pop icon Madonna was brilliantly crafting her music, not to mention her career. By the time 1985 rolled around, at the age of 26-27 Madonna had already achieved something very few do, stardom, eight singles record hits, and had been deemed Madonna Material Girl.

Being labeled as the Material Girl was not just some manager or promoters fabricated sales pitch, but actually was a way of life for Madonna and became a project of great interest to her. Madonna Material Girl not just a title became very evident in the video “Material Girl” where Madonna is actually suggesting herself as being the character depicted and not a fictitious person.

Due to the media frenzy surrounding the promoting, recording, and filming of this iconic event, Madonna was progressively solidifying her role as the “Material Girl” but not without disappointment and regret. It has been documented that Madonna wished she had never made the video or recorded the song. Hence Madonna Material Girl – Not Just a Title.
